Then...

I am very fortunate to have been born into a family surrounded by music and dancing and was encouraged to take up a wind instrument to encourage me to breathe properly. I chose the flute, have played in Youth orchestras, University orchestras and windbands and I still play to this day. I finished my studies at University, taking my teaching diploma on the flute. I’m also a keen pianist, recorder player and have dabbled with both classical and folk guitar.

Having sung with the Buckinghamshire County Youth Choir I went on to study Music and Classical Civilization at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Here I concentrated on Flute and piano and chose to sing with the Chamber choir, appearing on S4C.

After University I was persuaded by fellow Civil Service choir members to audition for the Royal Choral Society. Somewhat dreading this, as all I could hear were other people practicing their Bach and Mozart, I sang “The Sun will come out tomorrow” to a rather bemused Lazslo Heltaly. Fortunately he forgave me and I was accepted into this amazing Chorus.

I spent 13 years singing with the Royal Choral Society who are a fantastic group of people. Our home was the Royal Albert Hall and I was fortunate to support incredible artists such as Dame Kiri te Kanawa, Willard White and Jessee Norman and being a part of Lesley Garrett‘s TV series as well as recording a number of advert jingles, which I still hear today. But my greatest thrill was recording at The Abbey Road studios (of Beatles fame) with the incredible London Symphony orchestra – and to be able to still share those Classic Rock recordings with my own children is unbelievable.

... and Now!

Children commitments determined that I left the big City. This also meant no more long journeys to London to sing, which was when I discovered The Barberettes. This was a whole new exciting genre for me. Acting and moving as well as singing! Since taking over the baton at the front in January 2010 it is fantastic hearing the joy and sheer artistry of these ladies singing their hearts out.

I know my stuff when it comes to music and singing. I love to have fun, escaping into this great world of sound each week, sharing my passion for music with this wonderful group.
